Clear Vs. Patterned And Frosted Shower Doors

James Riley

There is something nice and beautiful about a clear glass shower door. However, there are a lot of practical benefits to using a frosted shower door. Also, there is something beautiful about a frosted shower door in its own right. If you're having a difficult time choosing which one to install, there are several factors to take into consideration.

Visibility

Clear glass allows for maximum light. If you are using a shower with any other type of glass, you may have a difficult time seeing what you're doing if you don't have a waterproof light fixture within the shower.

Effects on Size Perception

A frosted shower door makes the bathroom appear smaller. If this is your intention, it might be the best choice for a glass shower door. A frameless glass shower door, conversely, makes a bathroom look larger.

Variety

Patterned doors provide you with more options than a clear glass door. A patterned door allows you to choose different colors and styles. Your shower door could be blue, green or smoky grey. Clear glass, on the other hand, tends to be much more uniform.

Privacy

You may feel uncomfortable with a glass shower door because you will not have as much privacy. However, simply keeping the bathroom door closed and locked can be a solution for many. However, this may be a problem when you must share one bathroom and when someone else needs to brush their teeth. Also, if you don't have a lock on the bathroom door, someone might enter the bathroom unexpectedly.

Ease of Cleaning

Clear glass shower doors are typically easier to clean than frosted or patterned glass. You may simply use a squeegee to wipe down a clear glass door and it's easier to tell when you're finished. Dirt and grime are less obvious on a frosted shower door.

The Beauty of the Glass

A clear glass door can be much more beautiful than a frosted glass shower door. Companies that create clear glass shower doors have been cutting these doors for decades.

Durability and Ease of Making Repairs

Frameless shower doors are very thick and durable, so they are less likely to break compared with framed shower doors. Framed and semi-frameless shower doors are more difficult to repair than frameless shower doors. With each of these factors taken into consideration, it's much easier to decide which type of glass shower door you'll choose.

About Me
use glass to make small homes appear bigger

I have very small rooms in my house and I have spent many hours looking into ways to create a larger feel in the small spaces. My bathroom is especially small and I had to find a way to make it appear a lot larger than it really is. I decided that the best way for me to create the open feel that I wanted in the bathroom was to install a glass shower surround. I had my contractor remove the bathtub and install a walk-in shower that was completely enclosed with glass. This is just one way that I have used glass in my small home. Go to my site to find out other ways that you can use glass to make smaller homes appear bigger.
